![]() In the absence of abnormal platelets (which yours are not) or specific symptoms, this is not worth worrying about.Order Test About the Test Purpose of the test ![]() Maybe your platelets tend to die on the earlier side of that range, so your mean platelet volume is always going to skew a tiny bit large. So maybe when the test happened you had a slight preponderance of young platelets compared to old. Normal ranges are intended to cover most, but not all, normal variance in the population.įor MPV specifically, platelets are larger when they are young. If MCV is just outside the normal and everything else is normal, I don’t really care. Most of the other values (hint: most of the ones with “mean” in the name) are there to help characterize any abnormalities in the main levels - so, if Hemoglobin is low I want to check MCV to see if I have a macrocytic or microcytic anemia. When I’m interpreting a CBC I’m looking primarily at certain values: cell counts (RBC, WBC, platelets), hemoglobin and hematocrit, and if there’s a WBC differential I’m checking to see if it’s skewed towards any particular type of WBC predominance. But, MPV is one of the values on a CBC that doesn’t really mean much by itself. I’m an MD, but not a hematologist, so if one steps up to correct me I would trust them instead. ![]() I know this is probably me worrying WAYYY to much, but just having an understanding why I DONT need to worry would be helpful! And same with my Comprehensive Metabolic Panel.ĭo I need to get this retested? How likely is this slightly overage of MPV likely to be some of the diseases listed above (Seems unlikely since everything else is normal?). Thankfully the rest of my blood tests in the past have always been perfect. Sidenote.is my platelet count worrisome? Since it's alway towards the low end? (It's always been that way). and had some alcohol the night before (Not sure if that would affect it) and had done some exercise the day before (Which not sure if that would affect it either). For what it's worth I was lacking on sleep horribly. Anyways.do I need to be worried? I know it's only slightly over. My MPV has also been 12 back in a test I took in 2016 (The doctor has a site that shows your pasts results conveniently). Which are low but still normal, and this has been over 3 years). So I would normally not be worried, but my platelets are towards the lower level (Always have been, but they've always been above the normal range. Which i've read a high MPV can be a few things like Cancer, chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) (or other leukemias), ITP or something called heterozygous thalassemia. ![]() Mean Platelet Volumeđ2.1 fLė.8 - 11.0 fLĭiff Type Physician Office CBC w/AutoDiff (arb'U) (arb'U) Mean Corpuscular HGB Concē2.8 g/dLē2.0 - 37.0 g/dL Mean Corpuscular HemoglobinĒ8.6 pgĒ7.0 - 31.0 pg Mean Corpuscular VolumeĘ7.1 fLĘ0.0 - 100.0 fL Here are my results: (Apologies for the Formatting, rangeis the last measurement). and CBC besides 1 thing was off.and being a hypochondriac It has me worried).
